Right after doing the job myself I have a suggestion.

This is a much easier job with 2 people.

I managed to not have to remove the rain guard or the brace.

Remove the black cover by slipping off the rubber gasket

Remove the battery clamp completely, it'll pull up into the ac lines and stay put out of the way.

Remove the cables and tie them back out of the way, pop the vent tube off too.

loosen the rain guard on the passenger side until you hit the first wiper arm and then stop.

This is where two people come into play. Assuming (big assumption) your battery has "handles" which mine did, slide a 8 foot pipe through the handles. One person on each side of the car, and lift. Presto, the battery will pop right out.

Replacing the new one will require a flat pry bar to "help" the rain gaurd over the edge of the battery.

Replace the battery clamp, vent hose, and cables.

srdavis, did you notice a big brightness difference when you switched from 35w to 55w ballasts?

also, has anyone tried 3000k color temp hid bulbs? the yellow might produce more visibility. is that color legal for low beams?

I'd guess that the reflector bowls in the projectors are shot. I'm guessing if the rain sensor detects rain on the windscreen, it automatically closes the windows/roof.
