Post your questions, ideas, rants etc. about the proposed solution for a ShoutBox here.
I know it'll take a lot of screen-space on the top. Personally I'd prefer to have it down the left, next to the topics and threads. Unfortunately the design used by Web Wiz (the guys who made the forum software) won't allow this in an easy-to-maintain-way. Frank. |

That's actually the same spot where my local club puts it. I think it's fine.
As you know I've been advocating for a ShoutBox for some time now. It's a good way for members that are online to communicate immediately, as opposed to posting back and forth, waiting for PM's, or tracking people down other ways (recently I've had to track someone down through their YouTube account to ask them a question; they haven't been around here in awhile.) You can take a look at Projekt German's ShoutBox here. Hopefully it works for people who aren't registered through the Forum. |

I like they idea of a shout box. Top seems like a good place. The side would be nice, but I don't think nice enough to justify any additional work. I don't think many people would see the box if it was at the bottom.
The few other forums I've been on that have shout boxes, they haven't really been used, but I think it is worth a try here.
edit: I do really like the idea of seeing it on all the pages. Edited by rustybronco - 26-Mar-2009 at 07:52 |

The only other one I've seen is on Autopia, and it's at the top... I usually collapse it and ignore it... though I'd probably pay more attention to "ours". No harm in trying it out for a bit.

I seem to be in the minority, but I would prefer not to have it in honesty, or have a way to hide it. Far be it from me to stand in the way of public opinion though...

Jups.
I just wanted to give people a couple of days to respond, before starting to develop it. I have do develop it myself, and hopefully I'll have the time to do it during Easter. So you'll have to wait at least a couple of days still.
