I would like to get a pair of chrome mirror caps.
My question is...are there two different types of mirror caps - one that actually replaces the back of the mirror, and another that just covers the existing mirror backing and attached with double-sided tape? If you have them, what type do you have, where did you purchase them and are you happy with them? If you have the type that actually replaces the mirror backing, is it very difficult to work on? |

I just looked there and didn't see them. The only chrome piece I saw was for the center armrest. |

Hi Jeremy, I got one from Dubstop Imports (Rus) back then, and mine is the one that replaces the black mirror case, not the sticky ones.
I saw one on eBay, it's item# 360047592964, check it out. |

Even VW sells them. Here is the part number for '04.5+ 1KM 072 530 1ZL
Potterman's has them for B5.5s and are made by Inpro. These are the real McCoy not the stick on ones. ![]() Edited by B5crazy - 17-May-2008 at 06:02 |

Inpro are good - not too hard to install at all.
I have had those on my car for over a year. |

Anytime Jeremy, I think $50 is a good deal, I paid almost $100 a few years ago. Install is pretty easy, just be careful & take your time, it's "plug and play", here is step by step, sorry no pictures:
1. Move the mirror as far in toward the car as possible, and slip your fingers behind the outboard edge. A slight amount of pressure releases the clips and the mirror comes off. 2. Unplug the heating wires (white goes to the inboard connector, and brown to the outboard connector) 3. Along the front lower rear edge there are five small toungues to release, a moderate amount of pressure in a pinching action will separate the seam and release the clips. This is along the lower edge where the thin strap of plastic is on the mirror housing. 4. There are four tabs that catch four holes on the inside of the mirror housing, starting from the inboard edge, closest to the window, pull the housing straight up with moderate pressure to release the tabs. 5. The mirror cover rotates up and forward to clear the mirror base and motor. 6. Attach the new cover by sliding over the motor and pushing straight down until seated. Make sure not to pinch either of the wires running along the back of the mirror motor, or the motor will not move. (Don't ask how I know) 7. Clip the five small toungues into place at the lower, rearward, edge of the cover where it meets the base. You may need to use a thin flat bladed screwdriver as a helper to reseat the clips. 8. Re-connect the wires, and reseat the mirrors. PM me if you have any problems bro, I'll be glad to help

Easier method:
underside of mirror (black part) look for two small phillips head screws - do not remove them. between them is a rubber bung - remove that, reach up inside with a skinny screwdriver. push forward on the metal tab, and pull the mirror caps up and off. reassemble in reverse order |
